I'm fundraising to support millions affected by lung disease during the coronavirus crisis.
My story:
Thank you for visiting my Take Steps page. This September I'm getting active to raise money to help people with lung conditions get the support they need. I'm fundraising for the British Lung Foundation, the only charity that supports all 12 million people with a lung condition in the UK.
The BLF knows just how difficult the current crisis has been for people with a lung condition. Their Helpline alone has been receiving up to 3x more calls than normal and they're working round the clock to make sure people get the support they need, helping to ease the strain on the NHS. They're publishing up to date advice and information every day but they need support...
Every £57 I raise through my Take Steps pays for a nurse to work on the Helpline for 1 hour, meaning that those in need can receive crucial medical advice and support when they need it most.
Support my challenge by donating or joining my Take Steps team today!

My Updates

Wed 30th Sept ~ my final walk of this challenge from Poplar to Bethnal Green and through Victoria Park
Wednesday 30th Sep Today I decided I'd walk to Bethnal Green to meet up with some old work colleagues at lunch time, but having taken the route through Mile End Park and up over the Yellow Bridge I arrived in Bethnal Green when they were still working, so decided to take a walk around Victoria Park again and look at things from a different perspective and clock up my final kms ~ reaching 100 this month! Share
28th September, 2020 ~ I've smashed my fund raising target
Monday 28th Sep Today I finally managed to achieve that target I've been aiming for, but am happy to say still some people sending donations and I'll be submitting a cheque for the cash I've received as trying to add it online has proved to be a little problematical. So watch this space for the grand total. Share
Mon 28th Sept ~ the distance difference
Monday 28th Sep I've finally worked out why (and how) my sister is managing to walk much further than me! She tracks her movement all day, whereas I just work out the distance of my actual walks ~ hence the huge difference! She's done brilliantly to walk so far with COPD and reduced lung capacity ~ we've made a good team between us! Thank you Collette Richoux! Share
Sun 27th Sept ~ walking in the Olympic Park with friends
Sunday 27th Sep Today was very cold and extremely windy, but I met with 2 friends ~ one of whom had her 3 month old baby with her ~ so it was a different kind of walk from Stratford Station all through the Olympic Park to their home in Leyton for refreshments! Share
Sat 26th Sept ~ finally doing a walk with my sister
Saturday 26th Sep The Babbling Brooks team finally had the chance to meet in London and do a walk from Waterloo, around Westminster and through St. James' and Green Parks ~ one half of the team continued through Hyde Park to Paddington, while I finished my walk home from Canary Wharf! Share
Thur. 24th Sept. Thanks for cash/cheque donations
Thursday 24th Sep I would also like to express my thanks to the friends who have been donating in ways other than online ~ all your support has been much appreciated and spurred me on despite increasing pain in my knee! Share
Mon 21st Sept ~ completed my 60 km
Monday 21st Sep Even though today's walk was relatively short I've passed my original target of 60 km, but as there are still 9 days of September left I may up my target to 70 km! Share
Sun 20th Sept circuit of Victoria Park
Sunday 20th Sep

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Walk ~ Friday 18th September.
Friday 18th Sep Today I met up with an old work colleague to do a walk around the Olympic Park ~ another lovely sunny day, but with a very chilly wind. Share
Thur 17th Sept my walk on the Thames Path from Tower Bridge to St Paul's and back
Thursday 17th Sep A great day weather wise to do this walk and it was bright and sunny with a fresh breeze and not too many people around! So I walked the south side of the river at the start of the walk, crossed the Millennium Bridge and zig-zagged back on the north side ~ a lovely walk. Share
circuit wallk Thursday 10th September
Thursday 10th Sep Today, I just did a circuit walk around my local area with the aim of calling into the florist to order a tree for my husbands birthday tomorrow. Managed to achieve this, but they could only deliver today, so when the chap rang me to say he was on his way, I was at the furthest point of my walk, and virtually had to sprint back home and got there just ahead of him! So that was 2 km with a difference! Share
St Anne's Church ~ Sunday 6th September
Monday 7th Sep Today I decided to head west through the back streets from where we live to re-visit the church I was married in 45 years ago on what has been a gloriously sunny, blue sky Sunday. Share
my Canary Wharf walk on Fri 4th Sept
Monday 7th Sep I'd done this walk mainly to try and get a pedometer to monitor how far I was walking every day, but once I'd given up my search for that was just walking through what is usually an extremely busy area, but like most places in London now was virtually deserted at lunch time! Share
walking the streets
Sunday 6th Sep today I did a circuit walk around my area which took me 40 minutes, so my estimated walk was another 2 km, but it would be great to have an old pedometer that didn't need to be linked to a smartphone so I could actually track the number of steps I'm walking each day and be able to make a more accurate assessment of my achievements! Share
gardening day
Friday 4th Sep today I was getting a new tree planted and had to prepare the garden and had to cut back lots of shrubs for the guys to get through, so spent a total of 5 hours doing quite back breaking work with no energy left at the end of it to do my walking today! Share
my walks
Thursday 3rd Sep I have walked aprox 5 km in the past 2 days, but with no means of measuring it as no phone with App ability! I tried to get a pedometer today with no luck! My aim is to try and walk at least 2 km every day during September. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
