I'm fundraising to support millions affected by lung disease

My story:

Thank you for visiting my Take Steps page. This September I'm getting active to raise money to help people with lung conditions get the support they need. I'm fundraising for the British Lung Foundation, the only charity that supports all 12 million people with a lung condition in the UK.

Four of my family members have lost their lives to Pulmonary Fibrosis (PF), an incurable lung condition characterised by progressive scaring of the lungs. I was diagnosed 4 years ago (aged 37) with the same condition. Greater funding for research into the condition, development of new treatments and therapies, specialist clinical staff, and community support are critical for improving the outcome for PF patients, who have an average prognosis of 3-5 years. COVID has the potential to leave those affected with a form of PF, making it more important than ever to better fund services and research.

The BLF knows just how difficult the current crisis has been for people with a lung condition. Their Helpline alone has been receiving up to 3x more calls than normal and they're working round the clock to make sure people get the support they need, helping to ease the strain on the NHS. They're publishing up to date advice and information every day but they need support...

Every £57 I raise through my Take Steps pays for a nurse to work on the Helpline for 1 hour, meaning that those in need can receive crucial medical advice and support when they need it most.

Last of the summer sun

Monday 21st Sep
I took the opportunity to enjoy what may be the last of the summer sun this weekend with family and friends joining me on my walks.

On Saturday, with hubby and daughter in tow we headed out across the fields to forage for crumble ingredients. Lily loved her first experience picking wild blackberries and choosing a variety of apples from the orchard. All topped of with lots of fun splashing about in the river (even with chilly feet!). We were all worn out after our morning fun so enjoyed a relaxed afternoon and some yummy apple and blackberry crumble for tea.

On Sunday, I was joined by my close friend Helen for a 6km amble up over Chapel Hill. Another gorgeous day for walking, warm sun and a cooling breeze. Nothing like a good chat to make the time and km to pass quickly!

After a fun and active weekend I am low on energy today, so opted for a gentle short stroll through the woods around the village this morning. Lots of dog walkers and joggers to navigate but met by lots of  "Good Morning!" greetings to start off the day on a happy footing.

Glad to have passed the half way mark! Yeah!

Country-side Amble

Monday 14th Sep
After 3 days laid up in bed with a bad head cold, I was eager today to get out and stretch my legs.

Following school drop-off, in the glorious morning sunshine I headed out across the fields. Found some new paths to explore, enjoyed seeing a hare, Red Kite, and lots of butterflies. A whole hedge-row of wild blackberries noted for potential jam making too!

The climb up Chapel Hill was tiring but worth it for the beautiful views. 5.56km today!

Time for a cup of hot honey and lemon!
